My journey into photography began with a love of gardening. The flowers in my garden attracted bees, and as I watched them, I became fascinated by their tiny world. I started practicing macrophotography, and as my skills grew, I began to uncover the unseen lives of insects—bees cuddling on a flower at night, flies mating, the unwavering gaze of a praying mantis. Through my photography, I hope to inspire others to pause and observe these incredible creatures in nature.
To me, macrophotography is about more than just capturing a great image; it’s about telling a story. I strive to document an insect’s life—its food sources, habitat, predators, and most importantly, its personality. It saddens me to see these creatures struggling after being sprayed with pesticides or losing their habitats. They may be small, but their role in the environment is immeasurable.
If you’re interested in photographing insects, there are many ways to start. A simple way is to use a macro lens attachment for your phone. You can also take this workshop, where we’ll cover the basics of macro photography—how to find subjects, what equipment to use, and the best camera settings for capturing intricate details. I’ll share tips and insights that have helped me grow from photographing insects in my home garden to pursuing macrophotography as a serious hobby.
I hope you’ll join me in discovering the beauty of these tiny creatures and learning how to capture their world through your lens!
